How best to hook a reader

You know how they say you need a great first lead-in line to hook your reader? Never have I ever felt more hooked on reading this story thread than with this guy on twitter. I didn’t even need to read the whole sentence, just the first part, and I was in.

The story thread he posted to twitter had me spitting coffee (actually, wine, because I read it last night, but again this morning and the spitting prevailed).

I realize not everyone is like this, in Texas or anywhere else in the deep South. BUT, this sort of scenario was briefly touched on in the Walking Dead, or maybe the spin off…I can’t remember. And then the toilet paper fiasco happened to all of us less than a year ago which wasn’t weather related but did give us an unflattering glimpse into the state of humanity these days… 🙄

Weather has its own narrative, doesn’t it. For places that are not used to snow and cold weather, or who do not have reliable infrastructure (and politicians who run them) to turn to, well, this scenario in the twitter thread is quite telling.

But don’t believe me. Read for yourself. And for those of you who are shivering in Texas right now…hang in there. Someone I know in the Austin area told me warmer weather is right around the corner. ❤
