Beach day, puppy update, covidiocy and a little rant

This post is a jumble of loosely connected points from the past weekend. In includes a Beagle puppy update (part 1), a Beach Day summary (part 2), and some remarks about COVID and protocol (part 3). And then I round up the whole post with a little rant. #SorryNotSorry

Part 1

On the weekend my daughter finally got her puppy.

So what does this make me? The “real” mom? “Boss” mom? “Grandma”? 😂😭

Back to reality after a long(ish) escape

I filled out an online profile for the Ontario government while looking for a job to get me out of the house (or out of my head if the job is work from home).

I have experience in a variety of fields (flight attendant/office/marketing/support/training/technical writing/editing) but not recently – I’ve been home for 15 years tending to children. While at home, I did some editing and proofreading on the side, worked a few contract jobs, but haven’t been employed full-time while the aviation partner was doing his thing, coming and going without rhyme or reason.

Then the kids started competitive sports…

So I started a dog walking business. That was just on the upswing when COVID happened. (Everyone around here is working from home and doesn’t need a dog walker anymore…) 😞

Anyway, the time has come for me to get on with it. I have a project on the go that I’m not ready to unveil just yet, but in the meantime I’m keeping an eye on the job market too.

I figured, why not look into the government job banks?

Well that was my first mistake. 🙄 Continue reading “Back to reality after a long(ish) escape”

The numerical values of time, and what to do with it

I am not a numbers person. I have never been much of a math person. But today, I was inspired by some numbers.

The internet calculates things for us confused folk, hence, it was easy to lift the numerical values off the screen. All I have to do now is supplement them with my crafty words.

That is my jam, as you know. Words, not numbers.

So here goes. Continue reading “The numerical values of time, and what to do with it”

GOMA™ aka exercise by walking

Welcome to the first post of GOMA™ (Getting Off My Ass) and re-start walking regularly. I have two participants: Andrea in Germany (twitter @inkovator) and LA in NYC. So far. We are encouraging each other to stay on track with 20 minutes of brisk walking per day (at minimum) and documenting some sort of proof that we did it. Changes: something’s gotta give

A couple of days ago my boot-camp lady sent an email advising us that she was finally able to secure a permit to hold outdoor classes at nearby parks. 😃

There are a few changes: bring your own yoga mat, maximum 10 people per class, distanced stations to circuit through, etc.

She will sanitize the equipment (weights, rope, balls etc) before, during and after.

It’s exciting…but, I’m hesitating.

Will nature calm disquietude and restlessness?

I waver back and forth between a house in the country (mainly his wish, and my daughter’s) and a small minimalist (aka empty and void of all nonessential clutter) place in/near the city with access to this, that and the other*.

What is the answer? Continue reading “Will nature calm disquietude and restlessness?”

Letting (her/yourself) go

Disclaimer: I understand that many/most people have bigger fish to fry while the world is falling apart than to sit and contemplate this vanity-induced post here, so if you do comment, please be kind (but still honest) – I have no qualms blocking anyone if you attack or put down someone’s opinion on my blog.

Once upon a time when I was young and stupid, I dated some people I shouldn’t have.

Recently, I reflected on some comments one of them made, that have me irked. (sorry not sorry)

Here’s one that surfaced today: Continue reading “Letting (her/yourself) go”
