I got derailed this weekend.
When a friend asked me to be a beta reader for some chapters he wrote, and I said yes, I didn’t know it was going to derail me from my own writing.
Except, it didn’t really.
Allow me to explain. Continue reading “Writing catharsis”
This is a story my mom told me about our time in Switzerland during the 1970s. The story happened to my sister, although not exactly like this. I put a spin on it since I wasn’t there…I was probably at Kindergarten while she and my baby brother were hanging around with my mom in the apartment.
I remember the apartment building vividly, as well as the parking lot and the sandbox. I also clearly remember that order and cleanliness were very big preoccupations for the Swiss adults during that time.

Today we went to the passport office to renew my and my son’s passports. After, I had a million things to prepare for a tournament this weekend including a potluck which someone organized to take place at the hotel. Basically I was `out running errands most of the day today…🙁
In the middle of the running around, I received several panicky texts from my son. He doesn’t have a lunch. He doesn’t have any money. Can I drop by and give him money for lunch. He’s got school hockey, he’ll be at the rink.

I am writing my memoir. To read chapter 1 click here. (3 minute read)
The following is chapter 13, a scene that resides prominently in my head. I am not releasing my chapters in order. There are different parts to my story that rise up to my consciousness at random times, so I edit and re-write without rhyme or reason. If you like the chapters, perhaps when my book is finished, you will want to read it in its entirety. By then, the story will be more consecutive (I hope). 🙂
Although this story is true and happened to me, I decided to continue writing in the third person. Some readers commented they like it, while others preferred a switch to the first person. I appreciate the feedback (thank you!) but realized after re-writing chapter 1 into the first person, it did not sound right. There is a switch to the first person later in the story, but you will have to wait to find out why, and when.
Chapter 13 is also a 3 minute read. Happy reading!

Today has been a continuation of last night’s shit show. Rhetorical question: how does one parent teens?
Seriously, the amount of stuff on the calendar between last night and the end of this coming weekend is unusually heavy due to a tournament, a kid having been sick, a last minute sleepover birthday party requiring a drop off and a pickup which required some really complicated communications with another set of parents, a bunch of re-organized parent-teacher interviews that caused more, not less stress due to a the above mentioned tournament and…dog sitting.
Here’s the thing. Continue reading “Adventures in dog walking and dog sitting”
This blog post was written while listening to the instrumental version of
With or Without You by U2
Powerful music to influence and inspire.
I didn’t know who Alan Cohen is but he said this cool quote:
Do not wait until the conditions are perfect to begin. Beginning makes the conditions perfect. Continue reading “Music, writing and the first chapter is posted”
I recently had an idea about writing. Not blogging, exactly, but writing the story inside your head that needs to be told. To be written out, word for word.
