Women’s bodies, sexuality and the stigma of menstruation

Disclaimer: this is a straight-forward, blunt, personal perspective about women and periods. If you’re squeamish about these things I encourage you to get over it and read it anyway. Looking forward to respectful and thoughtful, contributing comments. Let’s talk about this and take away the stigma of menstruation.

***

Ladies, do you remember the circumstances of your first period?

What about you men, do you remember when your sisters started…? Or your daughters?

I don’t remember much, other than the usual sentiments of discomfort, anxiety about leaks, and how unfair it was to have to go through this crap for the next 40+ years.

Bullet points

♠ I have started a little venture. I have some new ideas about things and have diligently worked on those while the family was absent (camping trip) for the past few days (they’re back now). I’m close to completion and launching and hope I don’t chicken out.

♣ I have been cycling every evening. And walking occasionally. Like today. I walked to the store to get milk and yogurt. #GOMA

children + communication = mom in looney bin

Yesterday I spent most of the day doing this.

It was actually kind of relaxing as my partner prepped the old, original doors by sanding them down and puttying the holes and scratches. All I had to do was use a brush and paint the doors with primer.

The Benjamin Moore down the street recommended we use oil primer to seal the old wood properly. The doors are original to the house (1949) and in dire shape. They look ugly too. So this summer, my partner decided to do something about them. He started but then got called away to work so I offered to do the priming.

It’s messy, painting with oil. I turned off the AC and opened all the windows to keep the air flow going, and luckily it was a pleasantly hot rather than oppressively hot day.

I took one break to walk Jasper, beyond that I was busy with the the doors.

At some point in the afternoon the girl child announced she’s going to her friend’s and she’s bringing an overnight bag because it’ll probably turn into a sleepover.

(Doesn’t it always? 🙄 ) Continue reading “children + communication = mom in looney bin”

Living with teens at the end of the school year

I need to get this off my chest. I know I’m not the only one who has these challenges, and I hesitated if I should bother blogging about it all all. But you know what? I need some positive vibes here from you, or at least some commiserating… 🙄

So allow me to entertain you with a funny story first, and an exasperating one second. Continue reading “Living with teens at the end of the school year”

Taking a moment to calm down

Omg I had a morning today I rather I didn’t…

It must be Friday. Or Monday. Or any school day… 🙄

If you consider yourself a squeamish person, stop reading now because I’ll tell you things you can’t unsee in this rant. But such is life for us women; just another issue we have no choice but to deal with.

Sigh.
