Questions about blogging: Are you as curious as I am?

A lot has happened in my life recently that I typically don’t divulge on the blog. I could write about it, and in some instances, I may at some point. But writing is a strange creature, to me. My writing mindset has to be *on*. Plus it feels like my words need to rattle around in my brain a little before I can type them out and hurl them into the social internet. Inquiring minds want to know – 8 questions

Who wants to play? Let’s start with 8 questions:

  1. What is the first action you take when you feel out of control?
  2. What do you fear most?
  3. If given a chance to rebel against something, what would it be?
  4. Are you by nature a jealous person; why or why not?
  5. What is your favorite type of weather?
  6. Do you see yourself blogging for the foreseeable future?
  7. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to try and what has held you back from trying it?
  8. You have been given 6 months and an unlimited budget: where do you want to go and what do you want to do there?

I will post my own answers tomorrow.

A little more about the self-checkouts, and the poll results

There is something about the rise of self-checkout stations at many stores I hadn’t considered until I read a thing in the business section of the Toronto Star, who quoted a source from the Wall Street Journal:

What’s up with the deactivated comments in WordPress?

I contacted the Happiness Engineers at WordPress to find out what the disconnected comment situation is all about. In my case, it usually happens if I publish in mobile (rarely) or if I start writing in mobile, and then finish/publish on my laptop (usually).

Don’t be afraid of white space

Have you ever come across a blog post or a comment that is quite lengthy and the words are all grouped together and the thoughts are one big mixed-up jumble and there are no pauses or breaks or spaces and the entire thing runs on and on quite possibly with multiple thoughts within the same paragraph and after reading a few sentences you notice your brain starts to hurt?

Add some white spaces.

Insert some empty lines.

Like I just did.

Just hit enter.

It’s not hard.

I love reading longer posts or comments but it is so tiring on the eyes and brain to see a huge clump of words all grouped together into one giant paragraph without a break or a breather.

Especially in comments. Comments require white space just as much as regular blog posts.

Don’t be afraid of a little white space. You will encourage, rather than discourage, people to continue reading. Because I can guarantee you, I am not one to stick around for long if you write on and on without white space. And I really do want to read you!

So please, remember:

White space is your friend. 🙂

Funky stuff happening with my comments

Good morning…it is 7:30 am in Toronto, Canada, and I am obsessed with some a dysfunction on my blog.

The last three posts I had posted did not automatically have the comments activated.

I wondered what the heck was up with that…why why why? I love reading comments during my morning coffee. Especially when I write stupid, ranty stuff.

How do YOU brush your teeth? :)

I saw this posted on social media in various places and thought it was fun! Let’s have some fun on a Friday afternoon…

Your turn.

1) How do YOU brush your teeth? Pick a number.

2) How do you think I brush my teeth? (Because my way is the right way… hahahaha) 🙂

Monday answers to your questions – part I

Well, I asked and you delivered. Thank you to all of you who participated in the ask me something post. It was fun to contemplate my answers for you!

There are 16 people who posed questions, so in order to keep this blog post from becoming a rambling essay, I have grouped the questions together by type and will answer each type (by subject) every Monday until I’m done.

The schedule for future Mondays is posted below the first group of questions.
