Last night I discovered a new event in town, advertised on social media:

Well if I had known of this earlier I would have prepared more Heal my Heart mini gift bags. But alas, I didn’t and so I won’t be a vendor at the Stupid Cupid Anti Valentine’s Day market.
This whole thing about Valentine’s Day kind of irritates me a little. I mean, instead of paying $38 for steak at a restaurant you can pay $85 for steak at a restaurant on February 14, and that doesn’t include the wine or dessert or appetizer or tip.
But it does mean he really, really loves you.
Pfff.
But I have to admit this event thing was really clever marketing.
I mean, there are a lot of people who are against Valentine’s day, whether they have a significant other in their life or not.
Imagine how cool it would be to go to a market that celebrates Anti-Valentine’s Day!
Anyway, I may go by myself just for something to do. Depends on whether I have a car, or whether kids need schlepping to rinks or what. Or, I might just get on a streetcar across town.
Maybe.
Anyone want to go with me? 😀 🙄
Tell me, do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
If yes, what do you do?
Traditionally we mostly ignored it, although my mom usually handcrafts personal cards and buys the whole family, but especially the kids, some sweet treats.
That’s different. That’s not the pressure-induced, sparing-no-expense gifts to show the amount of love you have for your person on Valentine’s day.
There were times in the past when there were flowers and cards, and the ubiquitous chocolates. I don’t remember ever having had an elaborate romantic Valentine’s Day beyond that.
I don’t know how I feel about this. I mean, I have nothing against romantic gestures, subtle or grand-sweeping, but I don’t recall it ever having happened on February 14.
Frankly, I don’t even know what day of the week Valentine’s day is this year (let me check)…
Tuesday. It’s next Tuesday.
Isn’t Tuesday a hockey day here? Let me check…
We’ll be at the rink for varsity hockey in late afternoon, but the evening practice is canceled because the rink is broken. Something about the cooling system…
This means odds are 99.9% the day will be exactly the same as the day before was, or the day after will be.
Happy Valentine’s Day if you celebrate, or happy stupid cupid day if you don’t. Go to my store and buy yourself something nice, or send me a custom order and I’ll make something for you!
Your turn. Tell me about all the elaborate plans you have for this day of Looovvee…
See you in the comments.
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but when the girls were little, I would make my husband buy them something, thinking this would boost their self esteem 🙃

It’s just another day for me. When I was married oh the dread of that day. It just seemed like we went through the motion as the years went on. I enjoyed the cute little Valentine’s Day card giving with my kids.i honestly think that this so should not be a thing.☺️

I’m pro valentines. Anything that promotes love and friendship is fine by me

Tara and I don’t celebrate V-Day. I used to hate it (when I was divorced), but now I’m mostly ambivalent. It’s one of the worst nights of the year to go out anywhere. We just treat it like an ordinary day. Clearly we’re mad about each other, so why bother expressing that with a card or flowers?
Also, thank you for reminding me of this…

I try to ignore Valentine’s Day…but I did enjoy helping the kids when they were little fill out the little cards for their classmates.

Yes! Me too. The little kids were so thrilled in expressing their love for their classmates, teachers and parents. 🥰

Hi Claudette,
I had forgotten about Valentine’s Day until now. It would be nice to have someone to celebrate with, but since I don’t, it will be just another day, and it will be just fine.
Whatever you do on Tuesday, I hope it is a great day!!
Blessings!

Never liked V-Day. Waste of money, IMO.
I actually have tentative plans to hang out with Younger while Ben is at school. We’ll see🤷🏼♀️

Stupid Cupid? Too funny. I can totally see the need for an Anti Valentine’s Day celebration. The husband and I always exchange cards, sometimes little gifts. He’s a sweetie and always gets me flowers but we’ve given up going out to dinner that night. It’s usually crazy town

When I was in a relationship, I liked to get something cute for Valentines (not the ridiculously overpriced dinner though). But mostly men didn’t want to do anything, and if they did it was grudgingly, so pffft. Now that I’m done with relationship nonsense, I buy my own Valentine, like a cupcake 🧁💝
