American Canada Day celebrations

Yesterday I clipped the leash to the hound and wandered up to the rib fest with the girl child and her dad.

The girl child had this whole elaborate plan worked out: she was going to “accidentally” bump into a friend who was already at the rib fest with her family. I say “accidentally” because as we all know, teenagers are in continuous connection via their devices and pretty much nothing happens “accidentally” – with quotes – ever. πŸ˜€

Initially, Sonja was planning on going by herself but when the word rib fest was uttered, she had convinced both her dad and the dog that this was an excursion not to be missed out on.

I went along because why not? I like ribs…

There were four traveling rib places set up cooking their meat. They were all American. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

New Mexico, Texas, Alabama and Billy Bones (?) which was the only place set up in the shade.

Each had a stand with trophies showcasing how many awards they’ve won. There were many, like at least a dozen or more at each stand.

We purchased some from Uncle Sam’s which was the New Mexico stand. Set us back $35… Delicious!

Yum.

Here’s the fun part:

We were celebrating Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Day (which was on Friday) and there were many American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ flags everywhere. πŸ˜„

I know many of you are celebrating this weekend too, happy Independence Day to all my American followers. β™₯οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

Anyway, image the beagle among all those seductive smells. My arm almost disconnected from its socket, he tugged so hard the whole time we were there… 😳

Note to self: do some yoga today to repair the sore arm muscles. πŸ™ƒ

When we got to the park, we lost the girl almost immediately as soon as we “accidentally” bumped into her friend. They took off as teenagers are wont to do and we old folk hung around talking to the parents for a bit. At one point, Tucker got close enough to the friend’s dad’s box of leftover bones and managed to snatch one which we had to pry from his teeth. Bones at risk of splintering can cause real damage in his throat…

Poor puppy was not impressed. I let him lick some sauce from my fingers which placated him for about 32 seconds… πŸ™„ and then we moved on back home to get him some water.

It was hot hot hot! 🌞

Happy summer to those who live in my hemisphere.

Cheers! 🍹🍸🍻

  1. Poor Tucker!! He need a beef rib bone. He can gnaw on that forever without risk.

When did Canada Day start? Is it as old as Independence Day? Are you guys up north super polite copycats?? πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ πŸŽ‰ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
