The other day I read a bunch of post by bloggers who joined Bloganuary.
Essentially, they are fed a topic each day during the month of January which inspires bloggers to write something on that day’s topic.
I didn’t join.
I admitted this on LA’s blog in the comments when SwingedCat accused me pointed out that I like emojis.

The topic that day was about emojis. Do I use them to adorne and decorate my text in my blog?
Yes. Yes I do.
But I think the emojis are idiotic.

See what I did there?
Sigh.
The emojis have found a way to sneak into my text and added levels of emotion to my words. Or something. These days it almost feels like an irritating habit I can’t seem to cut loose…
Which brings me back to the prompt writing.
I tried to write based on prompts in the past. Sometimes, the topic intrigues me. Sometimes, even if the topic intrigues me, I can’t write about it because writing that day feels blocked. Sometimes, the topic interests me but I go off on a related tangent and I end up hating the piece so I delete it.
Mostly, I hate being told what to write. π
That statement deserved the upsidedown emoji! π€ͺ
Ha.
Anyway, I scroll through the Bloganuary posts for amusement as a form of getting to know my blogging tribe because what else am I supposed to do with these ENDLESS HOURS OF CONTINUOUS LOCKDOWNS WE KEEP BEING PUNISHED WITH?
Blah. I might move out of country.
Anyway, I do have more important things to tend to today, which I may or may not blog about later, and which may or may not contain emojis, so proceed at will. Or not. π
See you in the comments.
I really like using emojis. Kind of ads feeling and emotional to what I write.
Itβs almost like Iβm speaking out loud and the emojis are the expressions on my face or something. π€·π½ββοΈπ

I agree. Sometimes an emoji speaks louder than the words do… π

That’s right.
Some other times it gives clarity on the tone of the words.

I use lots of emojis during any chat/conversation and I miss doing that in blogs. I always add a pinch of humour in my blogs and I think if I can add emojis than I could express myself better. But, I have another stance with it, during writing emojis breaks continuity. When I first started blogging (last year) I used to write it on note-book and then type everything. Nowadays, I write whatever come to my mind at that instant and hence if I suddenly put emoji, it will break the flow. Later when I re-check I don’t add emojis cause then I don’t feel a need.

I have a love-hate relationship with emojis, tbh. But they do add a little bit of lightheartedness into the blog. The blog isn’t professional or monetized or a niche, it’s more like having conversations, and the emojis add a little bit of fun I guess…
My advice is do what you feel in the moment. π

Thanks for the response and the suggestion.
I keep doing different things with my every blog. Till now I have written 35 blogs and I try to keep it different. Yes, emojis is something I haven’t used yet , I will see how and where can I use it .
Also, I’m not spamming or anything, but I will really appreciate if you can invest a little time in my blogs, I will really appreciate with any advice I can get. ππ

A group of emojis can perhaps explain how ancient writing arose in the Egyptian pyramids. π

You’re the second blogger who I follow who is down on writing prompts. Halleujah! I don’t follow them of course; no doubt you’ve noticed. They remind me too much of being in college. Put one in front of me and I freeze.

I freeze too even if I like the topic (too many of the topics in this bloganuary one though irritate me).

Ah yes, emojis! I deliberately do not use them in my posts but do use them in comments π At work, my pet peeve is a co-workder who uses emoji bulletin points in our official customer newsletter. Most customers are 50+ and I just feel it’s so WRONG! π

Like you say, they have a place. Comments, even blog posts, yes. Business things? Not so much…

As a part time writer I considered blogganuary but I wasn’t feeling any of the post’s. Plus like you I just can’t follow a daily this is what you should write or draw (hate inktober too) kind of thing. As for emoji’s they sort of make sense in the smiley face emotion but are all the other stuff likeπ§»πͺ πͺ‘ really necessary. Maybe I’ll write a poem using only emoticons π

Until today, I hadn’t heard of Bloganuary. Too funny. I don’t really care for prompts myself. I kick myself every time I buy one of those books or magazines, as they just sit there unused.
There is a IG writer friend, who posts a writing prompt; if I have time, I write a three-liner. I begin the first sentence with the words/prompt given in and end the last sentence with the same words/prompt. I think it’s kind of fun and challenging at the same time. She’s never said whether I’m doing it right or wrong, so I’ll keep on keeping on – when I have the time and frame of mind π
As for emojis, there was one I loved and haven’t seen anywhere in forever. I keep hoping it comes back. I’ll use emojis in my IG and FB posts, email, and comments, but not in a blog post since I’ve been told by youngers that I don’t always use them correctly ππ

I like your approach. And, doing the prompts when you feel like it rather than as expected on cue would suit me as well. π

“May or may not contain emojis”? I’m not buying that for a second. They WILL contain emojis! Don’t deny it…embrace it. π
Oops. An emoji snuck into my comment.
As for the prompts, honestly, I kind of regret backing out of Bloganuary after three days. I’ve been impressed with the writing prompts and have found myself mentally blogging about them. Oh, well…maybe next year.

I use a lot of emojis in texts, comments, emails… conversational things. π€·πΌββοΈ
I don’t generally use them in my posts because I’m generally not worried about context. Emojis are good for letting people know you’re jokingππ, or irritated ππ€― or whateverπ€·πΌββοΈ
As for prompts, I like the music ones, but not writing prompts. Especially fiction. My brain locks up, which is weird cuz I used to do great in Creative Writing in school, and I don’t think my imagination is lackingπ€·πΌββοΈ
Meh!

I quit using emojis on my blog itself after my refresh (still use them in comments a lot!). I just didnβt like the look of them. I get you on the prompts. I enjoy doing combo prompts of random words ~ itβs fun for me to fit them together in a piece ~ but I am not a fan of having to simply write on an assigned topic. So many of those posts just ramble on pointlessly I find them too boring to read. Mine would be the same!

There are a few prompts that inspire, but in my experience most don’t. I agree with you.
