Modern dating: parents using dating apps

I’m researching something and would appreciate candid feedback.

I’m interested in the 45+ demographic, especially GenX and Boomer (give or take a few years on either side).

I’m not interested in the “no kids but looking for a partner to start a family with” demographic at this time.

Question 1

If you are a parent, do you filter out possible matches based on their parenting status?

Meaning, if you are a parent, are you willing to date a person who is not a parent? Why or why not? Also consider the vice versa – you are not a parent and your date is.

Question 2

If you are an empty nester (kids no longer live at home with you or the other parent), do you seek out other empty nesters?

Does it matter to you what their parenting status is? Why or why not?

Thank you in advance for answering this little survey. See you in the comments.

  1. When I started online dating I had one child at home and dated men who had children at home but there’s a big difference between having teenagers which is hard but they will be gone soon and a six year old which is a wonderful age but it’s also a commitment. As a parent who successfully raised children now living their own lives, that’s what I was looking for and found. 💕

  2. I am ambivalent about folks and kids. I don’t want someone with messed up kids and drama, however, I think a childless person might have perspective when it comes to dealing with one’s kids. I have to take that on a case-by-case basis.

As for if they have kids or empty nester, I prefer the empty nester. Once again it’s on a case-by-case basis.

  3. Hi Claudette,
I am not a parent and don’t really care about parenting status.
Because I don’t have kids I like the idea of dating someone with kids so I can have kids and grandkids in my life.
But I also like the idea of dating someone that is childless like me. There is more freedom in scheduling dates and going about life.
At the end of the day it all depends on the person and how much they want you in their life.
    Blessings to you! ❤❤

  4. I’m not dating, but I do fit your demographic and can answer as if I were. Thank GOD I’m not, by the way!!

When I was a single dad, I didn’t care about their parenting status one way or the other. I dated some childless women and dated others who had kids. It didn’t matter to me either way.
Pretty much the same would apply here. I’m an empty nester, but I wouldn’t mind if the other person weren’t.

Personally, I feel like narrowing down your choices so strictly might make you miss out on something wonderful.
