My doom and gloom posts lately are irking me so let’s change gears.
A number of humorous and droll topics have crossed my path in recent days. I thought I’d share. π
For instance:
If you don’t have a dog and you’re under curfew but you have a husband, putting him on a leash to walk him will earn you a $1500 fine in Quebec.
“Husbands don’t qualify as pets,” the authorities said. π
Perhaps it’s time to get a dog, then… ?

* * *
On another note, this endless lockdown and curfew talk is getting a little old.
However, Ontario’s Premier and Toronto’s Mayor do not think mandating a curfew is necessary (yet. Or maybe it is. Maybe not. They can’t decide.).
What one of them did say however was that we’re in a dire situation and when the details are released to the public, they will “make us fall off our chairs”.

I seriously doubt I’ll be falling off any furniture at this point…

Yesterday I had some free time while my mom was at an appointment. I went food shopping while I waited for her.
Remember all the rage about sourdough bread when the apocalypse started last March? Yesterday I was back at Denningers, the European market, and came across this style of cracker:

Sourdough Rye! Looking forward to munching on those. I can think of a dozen toppings that would go well with this style of cracker:
- Peanut butter and jam
- Butter and honey
- Cream cheese and cucumber slices with red onion
- Smoked salmon with lemon
- Guacamole
- Avocado slices with lime
- Brie cheese with pear slices
- Cheddar cheese with apple slices
- cheese of any kind
- Etc
Now I’m hungry. π³π

Here’s another thing that kind of irked me recently but is too ridiculous to take seriously:
I applied for a databank thingy to expose my writing profile on a writer-specific platform. When I poked around on their website, a chat window opened up and someone asked if they could help me with something.
“I read here you’re looking for romance writers,” I typed.
“Yes,” she responded. “Do you have any experience?”
“I have a blog with 200 followers that touches on that niche to some extent,” I said. “I also write another blog with over 2000 followers but the bulk on there is not fiction.”
She said she was very interested and sent me a link to create a profile with their entity.
I clicked it and started filling out the profile info.
The profile picture I selected is the same one linked to this blog – the black and white image in the circle. I mean, they’ve been harping on us to stay true to our brand yada yada since blogging began, right? This is my brand picture linked to this blog and related sites.
So I uploaded the picture, filled out the particulars, and clicked save.

An hour later I received an email message that they have rejected my profile. Reason given?

I could chose a different photo I suppose. Or I could rotate it. But then I’d have to do the same across all the platforms to make them match, just to please this one platform.
I really don’t want to. So I won’t. I mean, there are hundreds of other platforms out there that could do the same thing as they do, including LinkedIn (I used to have that photo on there, and no one ever said anything about rejecting me), so I’m going to pass. π

Today is Tuesday and I’m still at my mom’s. Believe it or not I kinda miss the family. And little Tucker, too. Wonder what kind of shenanigans he was up to while I was away?
I will be returning to my mom’s place weekly for the foreseeable future as she has a number of appointments and I will be driving her. Plus, while I’m keeping her company I have actual, official office hours. To write. This is bliss. π
Outstanding post

I remember the story about Ozzy Osbourne before he became famous. He turned up at a house pulling a dog lead with no dog. When asked he said that he couldnβt afford a dog….

The photo thing. Really?

Yup.
Someone pointed out it may be the system, not a human, who rejected it.

All their readers have to do is lie down while reading posts. Your profile pic will be oriented perfectly then. Yes, I’m a problem solver.

Fall off my chair, eh? Reminds me of an article about kids falling out of chairs at school. Something about not getting enough outdoor play and having spacial problems. π€·πΌββοΈ yeah, my mind makes weird connections.π€£

I get mixed responses on my “author photo.” Some love it. Some tell me it’s the reason for my lack of sales. At some point, hopefully sooner than later, we decide who we want to be, and then go do it.

Could I see? Maybe I’d like to buy your book. π

Check on Amazon. Author, A.V. Walters. Books are “The Emma Caites Way” and “The Gift of Guylaine Claire.” Sorry, but that’s the easiest way, since I’m not sure where to find the damn image. It certainly isn’t on this laptop.

Cannot wait to buy those. I have a list I’m working through currently but Ontario is just cracking down further, AND the polar vortex is coming…I anticipate much time to catch up on my reading. π

Yeah, the pandemic has done wonders for working through my reading stack.

Gee, thanks. We modeled the picture after the old author shots of the 1920s–yes, including the pipe.

The people who think her photo is off are fools. Just like your slant rejection. To me, that helps you stand out from the crowd

You got me hungry and thinking politics at the same time. You should probably recheck and send another email to that platform. Your folks back home will be fine. In the meantime, have a good time at your momβs!

Thank you. I may have to rotate the photo and try again just for curiosity sake. We’ll see.
And I’m home now. Yes, they survived. And cleaned! Ha! π

I am very interested in Tuckers shenanigans. As a beagle he is duty bound to perform said tomfoolery.

After the expected belly rubs were dished out to his satisfaction he made himself comfortable next to me on the sofa and…well, let’s just say it got a little stinky after a while. I had to get up and open a window. π

How picky these platform people are. Your photo looks great.
Imagine how high Tucker will jump when he sees you again!
Take care

I wonder if it was a human or a computer program that rejected your photo.
I wonder if falling off his chair more often would make Rob Ford more or less useless than he already is.

Very good question.
The computer program probably thought: “Oh no, I can’t easily find the important points in the picture to copy the face.” And other platforms were like: “Heh, I can!” And then the AI of the other platforms was sad.

Could be. π I hadn’t thought of a bot or other internal mechanics being responsible for analyzing these things but maybe that’s what happened.

I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s probably true, it’s likely some internal mechanics that has a checklist of items they need to fit their profile.

Love your post darling Writer of Words. That was funny about wife taking husband for a walk on a leash. Some humour is needed for sure at this time. I donβt suppose the couple in question thought the fine was very funny though.
Sending you many hugs and lots of love β€οΈ
