Wanna know some breaking news from my household?
The girl child accidentally found my chocolate and candy stash I hid at the beginning of lock-down. Mainly from the teenager.
This has been an ongoing thing, hiding and rationing and debating and arguing and negotiating about junky snacks.
Note: I still have the upper hand, at least for the moment. π
Backtracking a bit: when this whole shelter-in-place began, I looked for a few hiding spots to manage the food stash. Not just the snacks but also the non-perishables.
But especially the chocolate. I wrote about it here.
It didn’t take long for the looting to begin. I ran out of hiding spots in my bedroom within the first week. Also, my kid is not queasy; he has no qualms digging in my underwear drawer or the back part of my closet where I store tampon boxes. All he sees is the potential of finding food.
Frankly, I’m a little surprised how long I managed to outsmart him. I mean, here we are in mid May and he’s still sneaking into my bedroom every single day to look for chocolate.
But now, his sister knows where it is.
The interesting thing is, she told me about her accidental discovery.
Would the boy have done the same? I suspect he would have after he cleared out the containers…mainly to boast that he outsmarted me. π
The girl said she won’t say anything and for now, I choose to believe her.
But I am in the process of looking for a new spot. I have a weird feeling this rationing thing is going to implode shortly.
Maybe hide the candy where they keep their schoolbooks – they probably wonβt be getting much use for the next few months…

It works a bit different in our house, my teenage girls and I hide our snacks from my husband.

Ah! Very good. I have a separate stash I keep all for myself in an undisclosed location. π

A long time ago I also had to ration the chocolate. I am adept at establishing hiding places; but my teen was also adept at finding out. Hiding places and discoveries for a long time.
The time came I opted to play music at high volume while fracking part of the treasure to deliver a ration. The teenager waited in his room until the rationing arrived.
Sometimes I suspect everything was discovered and we both enjoyed the game of music at high volume. We never clarified this matter.

I am imagining it’s not easy to hide the Christmas gifts at your place.

Pfff… by the time Xmas comes I want to cancel the entire thing. (too much sports going on that time of year…)

Hi Claudia,
I keep getting my comments removed from your blog? Are you understanding my comments? Caveat emptor is not intended to be mean simply a warning as a funny line to think twice as most of us before buying the chocolate.

Thanks! Don’t buy it. Caveat Emptor for the chocolate.

Maybe hide it in the grocery store, in the “candy” aisle?

Good thing I like smart-ass comments. π Now, go buy your wife a new bed.

A new bed with mattress will cost $2,000…a Chicago Bolt is $1.19. Guess which comes first?

A king size bed is but a dream in my own life…no space for it. I guess a bolt is a good temporary fix while she spends some decent quality time researching a new bed. π

This reminds me of when my kids were younger. My son used to help himself to things I was saving all the time, and it drove me crazy. I will never forget that last slice of coconut cake I was looking forward to all day, only to discover when dessert time rolled around that he had shoved it down his greedy little throat.
Fortunately I never have that problem with Tara.

You need a biometric-lock safe. It’s the only viable long-term solution to save the chocolate.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.
