I have been doing nothing but take photos lately.
Of myself. Of my mess. Of my surroundings. Of my new clothes. Of my new boots. (70% off!)
And…of the dog.
This dog.
This is Jerry, the 4 year old Airedale. I’m sitting him for the week while his family heads down to the Dominican Republic for some sun and fun. I went to pick him up on Thursday and brought him to my house.
Once we got home, I tried to get a decent photo of us together, for the website that advertises my dog walking services. He is one of my testimonials, after all.
Well let me tell you about that ordeal…
I had to bribe him with love and affection and treats and biscuits and cookies and bones stuffed with marrow and rawhide and people food and sweet nothings and empty promises and when none of that worked, I tried some harsh commands with an evil eye and a threatening glance and finally I resolved to begging and…all to no avail. ๐
He would not submit to a flipping photo for the longest time. He kept wandering off, or licking my face, or turning his face, or barking at something… ๐ต
After what seemed like an eternity, he *finally* resigned himself to the torture of allowing a selfie with the love of his life. (me ๐)
My god. ๐
It only took about seventeen dozen attempts to get one photo that looked at least somewhat presentable. ๐

Here’s what’s going to happen to me while I have Jerry in my care:
I will be walking this maniac pooch about three times per day. This means more fitness, and more forced outdoor activity for me. I mean, it’s pretty hard sometimes to get motivated to go outside when it’s cold and wet and icky and dark…but with the dog, I don’t have much choice. He needs exercise or he’ll drive me batty. ๐
We have him for a week. When he leaves next weekend, we get another dog for another week…so I’m looking at two weeks of nonstop outdoor exercise.
Anyway, since he’s been at my place I’ve had to prep food a few times. This is what happens when I’m at the kitchen counter:

Hopeful looking, isn’t he.ย ๐
Expect some updates on doggie shenanigans in the coming days.
TGIF!

My favorite is when I’m prepping dinner and from the corner of my eye I see them giving me the look. You know the one I’m talking about.
A quick glance at where they’re conveniently sitting and they look away as if to say “I’m not even paying attention to anything you’re doing, you bore me *yawn.*”
Of course, the moment your eyes leave them they’re back to staring and judging and almost trembling with the possibility that some delectable morsel may come their way either inadvertently or with intent.
Silly dogs. Steaks are for me.

It cracks me up when I see my pets looking up while I prep. Iโve taken to having a piece of bread handy and I bribe the dog with little pieces as I cook…

I’ve watched him 3-4 times a year since he was 9 months old. My friend is an ex-flight attendant like me, we go back 25 years. ๐ She used to have a German Shepherd before named Riley. ๐

All 3 if my mums border collies were the same. The way to take a pic is position daig with viewfinder. Move head to one side so he can see your face….. Then snap!!!

I don’t think I would be able to do what you do – I would get too attached to the dogs ๐
