This NaNoWriMo thing…

…is irking me a bit. And I will complain about it in a minute πŸ˜› but first, I wanted to share a couple of photos I took on the way to the polling station. Because…today we vote for a new federal leader, and my polling station was next to a college campus and I tell you, the colours and scenery were absolutely breathtaking. I walked the 25 min round trip and stopped to snap some photos.

But back to the National Novel Writing Month thing.

First of all, the website hardly ever loads properly for me. I have tried numerous ways and kept things simple by using my already well-established Google accounts (an option you are given if you don’t want to start a new profile) but omg it took forever to load, if at all.

Not impressed. πŸ˜•

I left it while other things around me imploded, and almost forgot about it, meaning, I almost forgot that I had an account set up in NaNo.

Today I got an email called ‘summary’ from the NaNo people. I clicked it and managed to change passwords yadayada and finally got into the website.

This is where the irking starts.

To familiarize myself with the website I figured I’ll click on the following and look around:

Discourse Tutorial, FAQ, and How-To

Turns out almost nothing in this is something I want to do. Least of all, earn points.

Earn points? So they can ‘trust me’ and let me ‘earn badges’?

Maybe I’m not cut out for this.

I’m definitely not cut out for this. I don’t like playing by the rules.

I want to write, finish the memoir, the stories, stuff like this. I don’t want to spend time nurturing yet another thing. You know?

So I think what I will do instead is this:

I will bug you guys on the blog instead. 😘

Some of you have already said yes and the rest of you? I’ll hunt you down too, don’t worry. πŸ˜‚

Stand by for more…

  1. I did NaNoWriMo once. It was a real challenge and even though I “won,” my novel wasn’t anyway near complete after 50,000 words. It took another couple of months to finish it up. Fun experience and I might do it again someday, but definitely not this year.

    1. I am trying to find ways to motivate myself to get started and complete it through November but the website is not going to be that motivator, I don’t think. Thanks for your feedback, interesting to hear all the experiences people have shared here.
