Omg I had a morning today I rather I didn’t…
It must be Friday. Or Monday. Or any school day… π
If you consider yourself a squeamish person, stop reading now because I’ll tell you things you can’t unsee in this rant. But such is life for us women; just another issue we have no choice but to deal with.
Sigh.
I woke at 5 am. As soon as I stirred I felt two things: a wet dog nose in my face, and something wet and sticky under me.
Hello period, I hate you.
So by 5:10 am I already knew that today is going to be laundry day.
I hate laundry too.
Things improved marginally after that, because I received a wonderful email that ensued in a short but equally wonderful online conversation which put a smile on my face.
Plus coffee. β Need I say more? π
But my bliss was short-lived because children weren’t getting up for school and I had to make breakfast and lunches, feed the guinea pigs and the dog plus walk him blah blah BLAH long story short the girl child started to make cookie dough 15 minutes before we had to leave.
?
There were unfinished school lunches on the counter, assorted breakfast debris (because people don’t put dishes in the washer, they just put them all over the counter not even stacked neatly) and everything was covered in flour and sugar.
??
“What are you doing now? It’s almost time to leave for school…”
I may or may not have yelled.
Well they exceeded expectations with their cookie baking fundraising the other day, pulling in almost $100 (teacher expected $20) so they wanted to make more cookies.
With my ingredients, I might add.
Note to self: add flour, sugar and eggs to the grocery list. And icing sugar.
Look, I’m immensely proud of her independence streak and all that but the resulting mess she left in her path had me more than just a little irritated. Who’s going to clean all this up now? Sometimes they just assume that because I stay and work from home I will deal with it so they can just leave it for me.
I hate housework.
In addition, I had just returned from the bathroom again where I discovered I was out of supplies.
Because of course I was.
This meant that I had to not only drive kids to school (the sooner the injured kid is healed the better so I can release them back to taking public transit) but I will now have to stop at the drug store to pick up supplies.
Blah.
I’m sitting in a coffee shop typing this on mobile. It’s snowing. This is my view:
That’s the iconic Toronto streetcar, the one the kids should be taking to and from school. π
Sigh.
When I leave here in a bit, I hope the dog’s been walked and the kitchen cleaned up. If not, I guess I’ll busy but myself with housework for a while. I don’t expect my partner to do it all but he does a big share of the clean-up-after-children-who-should-know-better-by-now so it’s all good. Chances are, he probably did it. π
Maybe, on the way back to the car, I’ll pop into the store next door and buy myself some flowers. ππΈπ»πΌ
Happy Friday to you! Hope you had a better start than I did.
Unexpected emails and conversations make the world worth taking part in sometimes π

Wow, great streetcar and they get to ride it to school. How lucky can you get….but I think you said, “they should be taking.”

Yeah, my son has a broken collarbone so carrying a heavy knapsack and risk getting bumped around in the streetcar just in his best interest right now. So I drive him until he’s healed.

I’ve often wondered how I’d cope with having periods! The Streetcar looks more enjoyable than my daily bus ride.
